Quicksilver Trading incorporates a multi-system approach to their overall trading strategy. Quicksilver believes that multi-system approaches can help lead to better performance resulting in higher rate of returns for a specific risk level. Their longest running system uses a counter-trend approach trading in a 1 to 3 day time horizon. Dr. Whited developed this system by hand in 1973. Today it has been revised using both hand and computer input. The second system is computerized and used primarily in currency markets. It is trend-following in nature, combines both short and long term components and also involves a certain amount of discretion. The third and fourth systems generate positions typically lasting only 1 or 2 days and incorporate both trend-following and pattern recognition strategies. In addition to a lesser degree, Quicksilver uses a couple of options and spread trading programs that make trades approximately 2 or 3 times a year.
